Final Touches

This project has been great to work on and now is unfortunately coming to an end, however it means that you get to see the final animation which I hope you are all looking forward to!

Before putting all of my animations together to give me my finished 15 sec test/pilot film I had to draw my foreground images in flash, this included , palm trees, bushes etc, I also had to add some scenery animation to give the animation my intended real to life cartoon effect. Below are some images of the foreground drawings, done in flash and some videos of the scenery animation.

Enjoy

everything additionally drawn in this video was completed using flash.

Post 6 - Animation Timing Sheet

Timing sheet

this is the timing sheet used for my final animation, It allowed me to time my animation and allowed me to understand how everything needed to be drawn to give the animation my desired effect.

If you watch the movie and then come back and look at this sheet it will be clear what happens and when, you will also be able to see what frame a particular piece of animation starts and ends on.

These videos show the development of my Lightbox tests, the first image was a basic movement of the character, as you can see it is a very quick unpolished animation, this allowed me to then identify any problems and re draw them.

As you can see each animation has a slight alteration particularly on the arms and fins as it was very important to get a sense of weight and life to the animation.

Final Animatic for opening sequence

This animatic is of the first scene that will be shown at the beginning of each tv show, as you can see my research has helped with the development of the idea to allow me to produce a final guideline before final animation takes place.

The pictures below are story boards of the first tv show, The Sound Of The Sea, these will be used to produce my final animation.

Final Character Drawing Of Aquatic Andy

Now that I have finalised Andy the Storyboarding and animation process can begin!

Below is an image of Andy's house/beach shack where most of the TV shows will begin, I travelled to the Caribbean a few years ago and loved the way they coloured their buildings and shacks. I think that this has had an influence on my building designs.

One of the backgrounds that I have made for my final animation was heavily influence by james bond rock which I visited on a trip to thailand. The rock is in Ko Samui and also has a twin rock in Pi Pi island (Pi Pi Island rock is the actual one shot in the james bond movie) below you can see a comparison between my own photograph and my final Background design.

I tend to incorporate my personal experiences with my own work as I can allow others to view sights that I have seen and give them the ability to experience my own personal interests which I think gives the show a personal touch.

Developed Designs

Here are some positions of Andy.

The next 3 images were test drawings of Andy's face, I had to do this to find an appealing and fun look that suites my intended style.

Here are a few rough face designs and character designs

This is Freddie the fish, Andy's best and most loyal friend

Some more positions of Andy

Now that all of these drawings have been completed I then began to produce my final character drawings so that I could start thinking about Storyboarding and Animating.

This week I have gained a better understanding about how i'm going to structure my first TV show, using my own personal library of photos I have drawn some initial sketches of characters which has allowed me to decide which ones will be present in the first show, to ensure that the audience has an immediate attraction to the show, which should then lead to them wanting to watch each show each week.

I have also produced a script for the first show called Sound Of the Sea.

The basic outline of the story is that Andy hears of a mysterious creature swimming around the old sunken pirate ship. He rushes to shore to dive in and meets his friend freddie during his decent. Swimming toward the ship the pair meet other friends across the way until coming across Ollie the octopus who tries to disrupt their journey.

Once they pass Ollie they then go to the ship and find the mysterious creature which is a mermaid called Maurine who has lost her voice. The only way for her to get her voice back is to find a rock on which she can sing from.

Andy knows a good rock where she can sing from and so takes her back to Higgin Island ( Andy's Home ) and they all enjoy one anthers company beneath the stars.

Below are some of the initial drawings that I am going to be developing for next weeks post:

Initial sketches of the main characters of the Aquatic Andy series

I will be developing these images further so that I have my final characters for the first show. Coloured photos will be posted next week!

Stay tuned!

Welcome to Aquatic Andy's blog

Welcome to my Blog, my name is Jamie Price and I am an Animation student at the university of Portsmouth.

This Blog has been created so that I can present my idea Aquatic Andy to you.

Aquatic Andy is an animated TV series about a scuba diver, (Andy) who explores the oceans with his underwater friends. Each TV show presents Andy with new problems to face and solve as well as, giving the audience (Children) a fun and enjoyable viewing experience.

There are no messages or meanings that structure each storyline, however my aims are to allow children   to gain a better understanding about ocean life, what we do that effects the ocean and how we can help.

I will use my own personal experiences (as a scuba diver) of the ocean to produce characters and captivating story lines that will keep children entertained and excited throughout each show. I can use my knowledge to think of relevant characteristics for characters as well.  Many aquatic animals have their own personalities so it will be easy for myself to decide what each character should act like.

Hopefully this animated series became successful it could be a sponsor of an oceanic charity like, Save The Sharks Foundation as I have a great passion and respect for ocean life.

There is one personal feature that I wanted to add to the series and this was the character names, each character has a name from one member of my family.  I also wanted to make this series because my Grandad, a very keen scuba diver in his youth and Nan, a lover of exotic places sadly passed away in 2012, so the series would be something that I would dedicate to them.

I hope you enjoy following the journey of the production of Aquatic Andy.
